AID is pleased to host Strengthening Democracy, a talk by Jayaraman Venkatesan, the convener and co-founder of Arappor Iyakkam, Tamil for "people's association for non-violent struggle". Please join us in the Columbus Metropolitan - Karl Rd. Branch on Tuesday October 15th, 2019 at 6pm, for Jayaraman's speech which will cover Arappor's fight against corruption and the recent Chennai water crisis. Arappor Iyakkam aims to establish transparency and accountability in governance and build participative democracy to solve people's issues. Current focus areas of work include anti-corruption, restoration of water bodies, improving the quality of public health systems and creating awareness among people about their civic rights and responsibilities. |
